The 13th chapter of originally the Western, now the Middle Western, Province and 54th chapter chartered, the Beta Theta chapter was created May 29, 1939. Previously thought to be the Fraternity’s longest-running ‘hybrid’ chapter, research discovered indicates to the contrary – Beta Theta operated as a hybrid chapter for 15 years, from 1939 until 1954, when the Denver Alumni chapter was chartered; this is second to the Gamma chapter’s operation as a hybrid chapter for approximately 30 years. Beta Theta was the first chartered chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. within the state of Colorado, paving the way for future chapters such as Denver Alumni Chapter (1954), Colorado Springs Alumni Chapter (1974), and Omicron Pi (2002). We serve our communities as the originators of the Rocky Mountain Nupe Trupe ("Rocky Mountain Nupes") and the first chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. chartered in the state of Colorado.
A mix of new members, all undergraduate initiates, and alumni members jointly chartered Beta Theta; the ‘father’ of Guide Right, Brother Leon W. Steward (a 1917 Epsilon initiate) spearheaded the effort to charter the chapter with the support of Brother Karl P. Northcross (Alpha, ’22), Brother Benjamin H. Graham (Upsilon) and Brother Thomas Fields (Alpha Iota, ’33). The remaining list of charter members was made up of new initiates: John M. Anderson, II (as Polemarch); Jack C. Bradley (Keeper of Records & Exchequer); Charles A. Lynch (Vice Polemarch); and Charles R. Cousins (Lt. Strategus).
Today, we serve as the Denver City-Wide chapter which initiates programing on a total of 5 campuses within the Denver Metro and Northern Colorado area. These universities include: University of Denver, Metropolitan State University, University of Colorado - Boulder, University of Northern Colorado - Greeley, and Colorado State University.
Here's to another 86 years of training for leadership and conquering the harsh climates of the Rocky Mountains.
